The 1771-NIS is a high-resolution, chassis-based analog input module manufactured by Rockwell Automation under the Allen-Bradley brand for heavy-duty industrial data collection. The module features eight highly isolated current channels that act as a current-sourcing device by supplying its own loop power (20 to 30V DC) directly out to field instruments. This specialized feature eliminates the need for external loop power supplies, greatly simplifying the field instrumentation layout when connecting standard 2-wire or 3-wire analog transmitters. The module acts as a high-precision analog-to-digital converter, translating continuous 4-20 mA currents into 16-bit unipolar natural binary or Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) numerical representations. Its full channel-to-channel and channel-to-bus galvanic isolation protects sensitive CPU backplanes from transient voltage spikes, prevents complex industrial ground loops, and maintains superior noise rejection in harsh factory environments. Rather than using standard pivoting terminal arms, the 1771-NIS utilizes a dedicated multiconductor interface cable to route data directly to an external, DIN-rail mounted 1771-RTP4 Remote Termination Panel. Additionally, it features independent real-time diagnostics that can identify open-circuit wire breaks within 5 seconds, triggering under-range and over-range safety fault bits inside the logic processor to ensure reliable process monitoring. |
