Operating as the primary decision-making unit inside a Bulletin 1771 style universal chassis infrastructure, it acts as a centralized CPU that coordinates and refreshes data structures across connected 1771 Compact or Universal I/O expansion modules. The hardware architecture features a built-in volatile Random Access Memory (RAM) core configuration designed to host active system operating tags, ladder logic routines, and industrial timer/counter control parameters. To safeguard critical memory configurations and prevent complete system data erasure during sudden plant-wide electrical blackout scenarios, the processor relies on an onboard backup battery cell. For factory networking and engineering access, the 1772-LS integrates a dedicated multi-pin communication port that provides native compatibility with Data Highway (DH) networks, industrial programming laptops, and legacy hand-held editing pendants. Built for harsh factory conditions, its internal circuitry uses comprehensive optoelectronic isolation barriers to prevent high-voltage transient surges or plant-floor electromagnetic interference from corrupting critical execution paths. |
