The Allen-Bradley 1771-DXPS is a high-performance control coprocessor and communication expander module designed to slide into a standard 1771 I/O chassis block to complement a main PLC-5 processor. This module functions as an independent, multi-tasking processing subsystem that runs its own Real-Time Operating System (OS/9) and supports customized C, BASIC, or Assembly language programs. By offloading complex protocol conversions, heavy data calculations, and serial telemetry parsing into its own background memory buffers, the module enables rapid, unhindered I/O scanning on the primary PLC backplane while keeping extensive device networks tightly synchronized.
