The Allen-Bradley 1757-BEM is a specialized, single-slot Battery Extension Module designed for legacy process control platforms. Its primary purpose is to provide critical battery backup power to preserve configuration databases and user applications stored within volatile memory Integrated Circuits (ICs) on neighboring modules (such as the 1757-PLX52 controller). This protection ensures data retention during unexpected facilities power outages, line voltage drops, or scheduled weekend shutdowns.The module features a standard industrial chassis form-factor, fitting into a standard slot and connecting seamlessly via the backplane. It ships with an uninstalled, rechargeable nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cad) battery pack composed of three sub-C size cells connected in series. The onboard circuitry manages continuous trickle-charging during standard system operation so that it is always ready to supply power immediately upon a main power loss.
