The 1769-L20 is a legacy industrial programmable automation controller designed by Rockwell Automation under the Allen-Bradley brand for small to medium-scale machine control and standalone automation applications. It contains an integrated processor core paired with a built-in 1769 system power supply, functioning as an all-in-one CPU base unit that establishes a rackless physical backplane architecture. To protect active system operational tags, user-allocated ladder logic files, and system configurations during sudden plant power blackouts, the processor features an integrated front battery compartment designed to hold a 1769-BA lithium battery cell. It incorporates dual physical channels including a dedicated RS-232 serial port supporting DF1, DH-485, or Modbus communication protocols, allowing direct connectivity to local programming laptops, operator interface panels, and vintage industrial modems. The module acts as the local system master, dynamically orchestrating and refreshing data structures across connected 1769 Compact I/O expansion modules while ensuring deterministic execution cycles under harsh electrical conditions.
