The 1771-IFEK is a high-density, chassis-based analog input module manufactured under the Allen-Bradley brand for robust industrial data acquisition and process monitoring. The module serves as a high-precision converter that reads continuous electrical signals from field transmitters—such as flow meters, pressure transducers, and temperature sensors—and converts them into standard 12-bit binary or Binary Coded Decimal (BCD) digital arrays for use by the primary PLC-5 processor. A core feature of the 1771-IFEK is its versatile, hardware-configurable channel architecture, allowing engineers to set up the module to handle either 16 single-ended input channels or 8 differential input channels depending on plant-floor electrical noise levels and grounding layouts. Using block transfer read (BTR) and write (BTW) ladder logic instructions, the controller dynamically programs scaling configurations, filtering, and range definitions on a per-channel basis. The hardware connects to field cabling using a detachable, mechanical field wiring arm, allowing maintenance teams to swap active modules quickly without disconnecting field wires. Additionally, it integrates continuous real-time diagnostic utilities that flag out-of-bounds metrics, under-range loops, or sensor connection breaks via status tables transmitted to the main backplane. |
