The Allen-Bradley 1785-ME32 is a modular, plug-in hardware cartridge designed to deliver non-volatile program storage and data safeguarding for industrial controllers. This auxiliary module contains 32K words of Electrically Erasable Programmable Read-Only Memory (EEPROM), which allows it to be written, erased, and reprogrammed repeatedly using software. It installs directly into the dedicated memory slot located on the front face of a compatible PLC-5 processor, drawing a backplane current requirement of 2.5 Amps at 5V DC. |

The primary engineering role of this component is to defend active runtime memory (RAM) against corruption or total loss during unexpected power blackouts, system reboots, or local lithium battery drainage. It features integrated physical hardware jumper pins on its body. These jumpers allow technicians to establish a write-protect lock, preventing unauthorized, accidental, or malicious modification to the ladder logic program while the controller is online. |
Application

l Multi-Machine Code Replication: Used by engineering teams to deploy identical operating logic or base system configurations across multiple plant-floor PLC-5 processors without requiring a programming computer at each terminal.
l Tamper-Resistant Parameter Hardening: Enforced in regulated manufacturing setups to lock down final calibrated settings and sequence parameters by engaging the module's onboard hardware write-protect jumper.
l Remote and Unattended Station Support: Integrated into remote oil/gas infrastructure or water-treatment facilities to ensure autonomous recovery from power failures without needing immediate field maintenance personnel.
