The Allen-Bradley 1785-PFB is a high-performance, slot-bound communication coprocessor module engineered by Rockwell Automation to provide standard industrial connectivity. It functions as a bridge that enables a host PLC-5 controller to seamlessly exchange data across a PROFIBUS network architecture. The module mounts directly into the local chassis backplane of an Enhanced PLC-5 processor, drawing a typical operating current of 800 mA at 5V DC. |

On its front interface, the hardware features a primary RS-485 serial port that supports PROFIBUS FMS (Fieldbus Message Specification) and DP (Decentralized Peripherals) communication protocols, supporting data transmission rates from 9.6 kbps up to 12 Mbps. It also features an auxiliary RS-232 serial interface used specifically for establishing a local point-to-point diagnostics connection with a PC. This setup allows the companion Local Station Manager software to define node addresses, monitor active system events, and check onboard battery thresholds without disrupting network traffic. |

l Legacy System Retrofitting: Upgrades older, standalone manufacturing lines to interface with modern open-standard networking protocols without requiring a total replacement of the existing PLC-5 control core.
l Multi-Vendor Network Integration: Connects proprietary Allen-Bradley PLC-5 systems directly to third-party devices such as drives, sensors, and remote I/O that communicate over standard PROFIBUS networks.
