The Allen-Bradley 1785-V40L is a high-density, open-architecture programmable logic controller processor card designed to function seamlessly within a standard VMEbus computer backplane slot. This module bridges standard heavy industrial automation control with higher-level embedded computing environments, operating without requiring a dedicated Allen-Bradley I/O chassis. The module is equipped with a 48K-word static RAM (SRAM) memory capacity dedicated to local data tables and ladder logic programs. |

On its front interface plate, the processor features versatile on-board communication channels including Data Highway Plus (DH+), Universal Remote I/O (RIO), an Extended Local I/O port, and an optically isolated 25-pin RS-232C serial connection. The RS-232C interface is user-configurable and natively supports DF1 point-to-point protocols or raw ASCII text data transfers. Structurally, it features dual VMEbus connectors on the rear of the board, allowing it to act as either a VMEbus master or slave device while drawing its necessary operating current directly from the host system backplane. |

l Complex Motion Control: Deployed in heavy-duty machinery systems requiring rapid communication between the PLC engine and dedicated co-processing VMEbus motion cards.
l Large-Scale Multi-Protocol Networking: Utilized as a data hubs to exchange time-critical control messaging simultaneously via DH+, Remote I/O networks, and point-to-point DF1 interfaces.
l High-Volume Material Handling: Applied in high-throughput sorting, packaging, and automated storage systems where immediate low-latency interaction with high-level database computers is mandatory.
l Retrofitting and Legacy Upgrades: Integrated into older or custom aerospace, military, and large factory control systems already built around VMEbus architectures, updating the automation core without restructuring the physical machine frame.
