The Allen-Bradley 1785-V40V is a high-performance, single-slot embedded programmable controller processor card built to operate within a standard VMEbus chassis architecture. This module integrates the full functionality of an Allen-Bradley PLC-5/40 controller into a dual-height (6U form factor) printed circuit board card, enabling real-time industrial automation control from within an embedded VME computer system. It is equipped with a robust 48K-word static RAM memory capacity to handle intensive data logging, complex instructions, and extensive ladder logic programs. |

What sets the 1785-V40V apart is its ability to interface directly with the high-speed VMEbus backplane, where it can be configured to operate as a VME bus master, a bus slave, or a interrupter. The front panel features a collection of integrated communication ports including Data Highway Plus (DH+), Universal Remote I/O (RIO), an Extended Local I/O port, and an optically isolated 25-pin RS-232-C serial port that supports DF1 full-duplex or half-duplex messaging. This allows the VME computer system to seamlessly bridge real-time plant-floor machinery data with supervisory and enterprise-level computing applications. |
Application
l Embedded System Co-Processing: Embedded directly into Unix, Windows, or real-time operating system (RTOS) VMEbus computers to handle low-level deterministic machinery control while the host PC manages high-level data processing.
l High-Speed Data Acquisition: Used in military, aerospace, or advanced laboratory test cells where rapid analog data collected by specialized VME cards must be processed immediately by a PLC control loop.
l Complex Material Handling and Sorting: Deployed in high-volume distribution centers where the processor communicates over the VME backplane to exchange inventory database information with high-level computers instantaneously.
l Plant-Wide Communications Bridge: Acts as an intelligent data router between the open-standard VME computer network and industrial automation loops running on DH+ or Remote I/O (RIO).
l Automated Test and Inspection Equipment: Integrated into semiconductor manufacturing or automotive testing rigs that require a mix of specialized VME computing boards and traditional, rugged industrial I/O.
