The 1794-OB8EP is an industrial-grade distributed digital DC output interface card engineered by Allen-Bradley brand. Designed as a robust component for the globally deployed FLEX I/O system, this module functions as an electronically protected, high-current sourcing (PNP) output interface. It enables centralized automated controllers to reliably command field actuators such as high-capacity solenoid valves, relay coils, and signaling devices over standard networks via a paired FLEX communication adapter. The module is housed in an open-type, space-saving fingerprint that plugs directly onto a compatible 1794 terminal base unit, keeping user-side terminal blocks physically split from the active processing electronics. The "EP" suffix designates its advanced Electronic Protection, providing built-in thermal and short-circuit immunity per channel, which isolates faults dynamically and eliminates the need for individual external field fuses. Additionally, the unit features Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP) capability, enabling maintenance crews to hot-swap a damaged card on the factory floor without stopping system-wide electrical power or breaking down the communications of adjacent runtime modules.
