The Allen-Bradley 1305-KBA09 is a Dynamic Braking Kit designed as an accessory for the 1305 series Adjustable Frequency AC Drives. When a variable frequency drive forces an industrial motor to slow down rapidly, the motor acts as a generator, pumping energy back into the drive's intermediate DC bus link. This module works alongside the drive's internal chopper circuitry to redirect that dangerous excess voltage into heavy-duty resistive elements, converting the electrical energy into safe thermal dissipation. By capping the bus voltage, it prevents overvoltage faults, safeguards sensitive drive components, and enables controlled, high-torque braking cycles for heavy-inertia industrial machinery.
