The 1768-EWEB module is a specialized industrial communication interface designed to bridge operational technology (OT) with information technology (IT) environments by linking the 1768/1769 backplane to plant-wide Ethernet architectures. It features 2.5 megabytes of non-volatile memory to host custom HTML files and graphics, allowing users to build tailored process monitoring dashboards without relying on specialized SCADA software. The module simplifies data integration through automated XML formatting for enterprise database extraction, while its native SMTP capabilities send automated alarm and status emails directly to plant personnel. Operating on a standard EtherNet/IP interface, it simultaneously handles high-speed implicit I/O control messaging and explicit information exchange between automation components. To safeguard these operations, the firmware includes configurable security access layers and password encryption protocols that effectively restrict unauthorized web connections and data write access.
