The Allen-Bradley 1784-PKTS is a legacy, high-performance network interface card designed to integrate personal computers or PC-based control systems directly with industrial automation networks. Unlike its sister cards (the 1784-PKTX and PKTXD, which support DH+ and DH-485 protocols), the 1784-PKTS variant is a specialized, single-channel card purpose-built to act as a Remote I/O (RIO) Scanner interface. It features a Universal PCI bus design that allows it to install seamlessly into standard computer expansion slots. Equipped with an onboard microprocessor, it autonomously handles protocol execution, timing, and data transfer without lagging the host PC's primary CPU. This card is a foundational component for running soft-control or embedded-control engines, enabling the computer host to scan, control, and collect data from extensive lines of remote 1771 or 1794 I/O chassis across the factory floor.
