The 1786-RPFRL is an industrial-grade ControlNet Long-Distance Fiber-Optic Ring Repeater Module manufactured by Allen-Bradley. This specialized communication component is engineered to convert electrical signals from a ControlNet copper network into optical signals, allowing high-speed, deterministic automation data to be transmitted reliably over vast physical distances. It holds an IP20 environmental protection rating and typically supports multi-mode fiber-optic cabling (62.5/125 µm), extending network segment reach up to 3,000 meters (or up to 10,000 meters depending on configuration and cable choice) without losing signal integrity. |

The module is equipped with dual optical fiber channel ports (Channel 1 and Channel 2) and an integrated electromechanical fault relay contact. It draws its operational power directly from its companion 1786-RPA/B adapter module, requiring a current draw of 570 mA. Designed for harsh industrial setups, it includes front-facing status LED indicators for real-time diagnostics of power and individual channel link health, ensuring rapid troubleshooting on the plant floor. |
Application
l Long-Distance Network Extension: Deployed to bridge network communication gaps across extended distances (up to several kilometers) where traditional copper coaxial cabling would experience extreme signal attenuation.
l Redundant Ring Topology Construction: Utilized to create a fault-tolerant, self-healing fiber ring architecture where communication remains uninterrupted even if a single optical media line breaks between two repeaters.
l Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) Mitigation: Applied in heavy industrial environments (such as near large motors, drives, or high-voltage lines) to leverage fiber-optic immunity against electrical noise and lightning surges.
l Media Conversion: Functions alongside the 1786-RPA/B adapter to seamless transition data packages from standard 75-Ohm coaxial trunk lines to fiber-optic backbones and vice versa.
l Remote Fault Monitoring: Uses its onboard integrated relay contact to trigger external alarms, sirens, or PLC inputs if a fiber link failure is detected for more than 1300 milliseconds.
