Overview

The 1791-16BC is a legacy, self-contained remote intelligent electronic hardware unit engineered by Allen-Bradley brand. Classified as a classic "Block I/O" device, this module integrates the functionalities of a remote I/O chassis, an adapter, an internal power supply, and standard signal conditioning circuits into a single standalone enclosure. It is designed to act as a cost-effective distributed I/O solution on Allen-Bradley Remote I/O (RIO) networks. The module enables direct control over field automation points from central processing controllers, establishing backward compatibility with legacy Allen-Bradley system families such as the PLC-2, PLC-3, PLC-5, and SLC 5/02 platforms. Enclosed in a compact IP20 housing, the device offers physical layout flexibility by allowing users to mount it either horizontally or vertically onto a standard 35 mm DIN rail or directly to a cabinet subpanel via mounting screws. The main purpose of the 1791-16BC is to place point-to-point interfacing closer to industrial actuators and sensors.
